»Where do you meet people? /.../ Where are people meeting each other? I'll tell you where. If you haven't met someone by the time you graduate, you're going to marry some cunt from your work, « ruminates Tom. Having a new job is stressful, meeting new people at work is stressful, and bonding with them is stressful. By the end of his first week, Tom goes for a drink with his new colleagues. Nine drinks later Tom ends up in bed with his new colleague, Amy. Conducting an affair with someone from work is even muddier than being in a relationship with someone you don't work with. Before Tom and Amy know it, a one night stand becomes a relationship. And before he knows it, he feels anxious and suffocated. Similarly, Amy isn't exactly over the moon about Tom either. He’s almost sure they'll soon break up, while Amy, on the other hand, is determined to stay in a relationship to prove that she can have her man too. The bottom line is that neither of them has sorted out their emotional baggage from previous relationships, or got over them, which prevents them from entering into a mature and responsible relationship. As long as one's ex’s aren’t a thing of the past, they can fatally influence one's future.
My Romantic History, a comedy by a young Scottish author D. C. Jackson is a comedy about love, loss and relationships. It’s a comedy about people who aren’t' that young any more and are desperate to have a loving relationship. But as soon as they get involved, they don't want it any more, and remain clueless how to behave and what to do with their partners.
